Pie and a Pint Party
So one of my day job customers decided to have a party for all their clients.
They asked if I'd like to photograph the event.
Amazingly it was the one day of the week that it didn't poor with rain and the sun was out.
The idea was to have pies, mushy peas and pints of ale. They went down very well.
They have a roof terrace which was a little cramped but we're used to that in Soho!
I managed to catch a couple of people having a quiet moment...
...and one rushing around before the party started.
I tried to capture people in the sweet spot between relaxed and pissed. Not easy.
I think people were a little camera shy, could have done with a rangefinder!
Overall though an interesting experience, and great pies!

Ugh! I could use a pie and a pint right now!

Lovely stuff! Looks like fun!

(can't help but to think of Sweeney Todd now whenever I see pies like that) hahaha!

Pies are always good!
Thanks, it was fun. I think it might have been less fun if it had been raining like it had the previous day!

Embarassingly I had to google Sweeny Todd and pies, I knew of him but never knew the story! I guess it might put someone off pies after seeing the film.

If you don't mind a cannibalistic musical, you should watch it, haha!

Great shots! Looked like a really nice day for a party outside!

Cheers Noah, it was the perfect sunny evening. They got really lucky. It could have been a bunch of interior shots or people with umbrellas!

Nice photos; you captured the mood of the party well, I think. I'm sorry people were camera shy; did you warm them up to your presence before you started snapping? I have found that's a must when shooting in situations where there is no way that people will not notice your presence.

Cheers Darren, always good to have some input from a working photographer.
I don't think people knew they were going to be photographed. I mentioned this afterwards to the host. We will know for next time.
It wasn't too bad once people realised what I was doing. I tried to mingle a bit and wave my big camera around a bit to make people aware before I started snapping.
One person commented that the lens was a bit imposing (24-70) hence my comment about having a rangefinder.
Any tips for warming people up?

Sorry, I meant to reply to that as me, not PPI. :-)

It sounds like you did what I do. I just walk around holding my camera so people simply get used to seeing me around, and then after a while, they barely notice me when I start snapping.

mmmmmmm pie :D hows the mrs doing mate? any strange food cravings yet? a friend of mine used to eat firelighters!!! (true)
Posted by Mark Taylo... on
Firelighters - wouldn't they be really bad for you? Like hospital bad?

Thanks. She's due on the 18th!! She's ok, just tired. I'm trying to be cool but I'm looking forward to be able to the next stage now, I'm an impatient bastard.

How are things with you?
